Product Description The Model XP-581 is one of Elenco's most popular solid-state DC power supply, ideal for use in school labs, service shops or anywhere a precise DC voltage is required. Contains four fully regulated power supplies - Three fixed voltage supplies of +5VDC @ 3A, +12VDC @ 1A and –12VDC @ 1A - One variable voltage supply capable of delivering 2.5 - 20V at up to 2A. All four supplies are precisely held to the desired output voltage by special regulating circuits. The fixed +5V and the variable supply are protected from overload by a current foldback circuit. The +12V and –12V supplies are protected by special thermal cutoff circuits. Each power supply has circuits that are designed to protect against shorts or excessive current demand. I'm not one who is going to use a workbench power supply on a regular basis. However when I do need to test a circuit or power a kit then it's really handy to have one. In today's world of digital electronics the +/-5 and +/-12 volt levels are all you need. Add to that the higher amperages and you can do a lot with this supply. The analog displays aren't digital but they're clear and easy to read. That this Elenco supply isn't a kit is convenient but I think I'd have enjoyed building it. This unit is well made and a great value.
